Join us for performances from five local musicians creating new sounds! There will be four sets of music, with one intermission.
Gabriella Grinwald-Alves is a filmmaker/ musician from Toms River, NJ. She is the other half of local duo Yūgen alongside Jules Murtha. During the year she attends Sarah Lawrence College where she studies filmmaking and screenwriting.
Flora and Fang (Kasey Gillette and Jenny Santamaria) Kasey of Long Branch and Jenny of Brick met and decided to join forces about a year ago after they played their own sets at a house party in Montclair. Both agreed their music needed harmonies and a collaborative partner to develop small pieces of songs into full songs. Taking inspiration from their own experiences involving love, death, pleasure and pain, the name Flora and Fang was born. Outside of writing and playing music, both are career women in the arts- Kasey is a costume designer for several theaters around the state and Jenny is an art teacher in the Tinton Falls School district. When we can catch a breath of air from our work we mutually turn to our instrument. We're excited to play the mansion and be on this unique and special bill of empowered ladies.
Martin Howth (Audra Mariel) is a new looping project featuring a suitcase of sounds created by vocalist, Audra Mariel. All of the loops are generated live, and without the use of digital effects; it's "mostly mouth sounds." The music has been described as ethereal and captivating, and Mariel's jazz roots are definitely detectable in this unique new sound. Her first album, The Wayward Warbler, will be released this fall. Audra hosts the Music At the Mansion series, and will be performing again with A Real Human Jazz Band in October.
Emily Grove After her second year at Berklee College of Music, Emily Grove decided that it was time to pursue a musical education in the real world. She has performed with just about every local artist, and lent her voice to many of their recordings, as demand for her vocal talents has grown. As a solo act, she’s won awards for “Best Female Acoustic Act” at the 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 Asbury Music Awards, and won three Jersey Acoustic Music Awards (best female singer[2011 and 2012]/female songwriter [2011]). As a solo act as well as an opener for David Ford, she has toured England, Ireland, Scotland, Germany, Bulgaria, US, and Canada. Also, she recently sang backup for David Gray on the Today Show as well as sang backup for Social Distortion on the Stone Pony Summer Stage. Her beautiful, unique voice has stopped people in their tracks on the Asbury Park boardwalk, and is at the heart of everything she does.
Emily has opened for or performed with David Gray, Griffin House, Ari Hest, Charlie Mars, Matthew Ryan, Brett Michaels, Dan Reed, Glen Burtnik, Rhett Miller (Old 97s), Marshall Crenshaw, Willie Nile, Kris Gruen, David Ford, John Lefler (Dashboard Confessional), Scars on 45, Peter Bradley Adams, and many more.
